Project Access Health
Vision
The purpose of Project AccessHealth is to improve the health and well-being of people who are unable to obtain quality medical care due to lack of funds or medical supplies.
Problem Statement
The purpose of Project AccessHealth is to improve the health and well-being of people who are unable to obtain quality medical care due to lack of funds or medical supplies.
Throughout Nigeria, many hospitals have low patient health outcomes and poor medical efficiency due to a lack of funding, supplies, and infrastructure. As a result, many patients' health outcomes are lower, and their diagnoses are unable to be treated with the best quality and timely care.
Due to pressing issues such as these, one of Chimamanda’s family members diagnosed with prostate cancer needs to visit the US annually from Nigeria to receive quality checkups and medical care vital for their treatment. This is one of many situations where some Nigerian hospital institutions and hospital patients have lacked the funds and supplies vital for adequate treatment.
To alleviate this issue, even if on a smaller scale, Chimamanda has located a relatively poor Nigerian institution, Imo State Specialist Hospital, in the city of Owerri for which she raises funds for procedures for some patients who cannot afford them as well as basic medical supplies the hospital needs. Some specific cases include a 900,000 naira orthopedics bill from broken legs and over $200 USD worth of requisite medical supplies.
Execution
Chimamanda is located in Atlanta, GA, where she makes homemade crochet animals and creates baked goods that are sold at arts and crafts fairs around her community. With these funds, she then sends the money to the hospital where they use it to buy medical supplies and fund a patient’s procedure.
If you know anyone or are interested in a crochet item please donate now and share Chimamanda's initiative to see a true, visible impact in the future of the Nigerian hospital and its patients.
