TEEN FOR TEEN CLUB (Coming Soon)
“When you don’t share your problems, you resent hearing the problems of other people.”
– Chuck Palahniuk
Our Mission
Welcome! This program is a support system for high schoolers, regardless of whether you are struggling with a personal issue or just want to discuss with others and make new friends! Either way, we want to nurture and encourage our peers to be at their full potential and have a gratitude for what they have & this program does exactly that: allows us to share our problems, hear related experiences, and know that we are not alone.
Let’s be real for a second. It’s hard to be a teenager: we have personal issues, new challenges added by social media, family/friends drama, and all that homework and extra responsibility that school brings. Now, while we might now have all of these problems, we can say that since last year or even yesterday, we have grown as people, both physically and emotionally. Every day brings on a new challenge & it our role to combat this with the right solution. Especially with the COVID-19 pandemic hurting our social lives and interrupting our academics, we have newfound struggles such as getting back into the routine of our daily asks (even if it has been a couple of years). What is normal for us isn’t normal for everyone. There is an enormous amount of pressure put on students to maintain their grades & friendships, while still trying to live out a childhood and fit in with the newest trends. To make matters worse, this generation’s reliance on social media has hurt individuals’ self-esteem and body image; we’re being put down by someone or something that may not even exist.
Why should I open up to peers? Wouldn’t my personal problems just end up as gossip? We need TRUST! All relationships are built upon trust & you need to have the accountability to keep all information within the group itself. We might just be able to use a school counselor, therapist, or trusted adult, but they don’t have the same problems as our current generation (as technology has heavily advanced, so has the complexity of our problems). Us teenagers may have already had these experiences and can give useful advice, not to mention be able to make friends or ask deeper questions (without being pressed for time or charged a huge fee).
The Process
We will hold a weekly Zoom call (or Google Meets) with a starting of 10 teenagers (we will decrease or increase this number as we see fit). If necessary, a series of Zoom meetings will be hosted, where students can join whatever time is more convenient for them (to prevent overcrowding). Students can choose to remain anonymous to discuss their situations at a personal level without being identified, but do not have to. As we get more familiar with one another, it is encouraged that anonymity terminates (to symbolize the idea that our problems do not define our identity, but rather our approach). We will not record any meetings or release the names/personal information of those who register. It will only be kept with TPW executives
